Bark Logger lets you leave a phone at home to detect when a dog barks, howls or whines, and gives you a timestamped report. In short: your audio never leaves your phone. The app has no account and no servers of ours. The only data that leaves your phone is what Google’s ad service collects to show ads, described in section 5.

1. Microphone and audio

  • The app asks for microphone permission and uses the microphone only during a listening session that you start. Android shows a notification and a microphone indicator the whole time, and you can stop at any time.
  • Sound is analysed on your phone by a sound-recognition model built into the app. Audio is never uploaded to us or anyone else.
  • If “Save audio clips” is on (Settings), the app keeps a short clip (up to 15 seconds) of the start of each barking episode, in the app’s private storage on your phone. You can turn this off at any time.

2. Notifications

The app asks for notification permission so it can show the “listening” notification Android requires during a session, and a “session finished” notification at the end. Notifications are shown on your phone only.

3. Information stored on your phone

  • Session details: start and end times, detected barking bouts (time, duration, type and loudness) and notes such as “stopped because the battery was low”.
  • Audio clips, if enabled. They are deleted automatically after the period you choose in Settings (3, 7 or 30 days), or kept until you delete them.
  • Your settings.

All of this is stored only in the app’s private storage, which other apps can’t read, and we (the developer) never receive any of it. The app does not use Android cloud backup for this data.

4. Exports and sharing (only when you choose)

Nothing is shared unless you choose to. When you tap Export PDF, Export CSV or Share clips, the file is created on your phone and handed only to the app you pick (for example email, WhatsApp or Drive). What happens to it after that is governed by that app or service.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app is free and shows banner ads on the Report and History screens only, never while it’s listening. The ads are provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and prevent fraud, Google may collect and process:

  • device identifiers such as the Android advertising ID,
  • your IP address and the approximate location derived from it,
  • information about the ads you see and tap, and basic app and device information (for example crash and performance data of the ad software).

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, you’re asked for consent before ads use your data for personalisation, using Google’s consent tool. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy choices for ads. Anywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s Android settings.

6. Information we collect

None. The app has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting service of ours, and we never receive your audio, reports or settings. We don’t sell any information. If you install the app from Google Play, Google may collect information about installs and crashes as described in Google’s own privacy policy; we may see anonymous, aggregated statistics in the Play Console.

7. Deleting your information

Delete any episode or session in the app, or uninstall the app (or clear its data in Android settings) to delete everything it stored on the phone. Files you exported or shared must be deleted from wherever you saved or sent them.

8. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

9. Recording responsibly

Recording audio may be regulated where you live. Only use the app in places where you’re allowed to, and use reports responsibly. The app shows this notice before your first session.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new effective date.
